When I think about building a business, I often picture it like growing a garden. Both need time, patience, and care to thrive. Just like a garden needs the right conditions to grow, your business needs the right systems in place to flourish. But here’s the key: these systems need to be aligned with you - your natural rhythm, your needs, and your energy. That’s why I believe in a nervous-system-friendly approach - creating systems that support not just your business, but your well-being too.
I’ve shared before that businesses are like gardens, and today I want to explain how this metaphor extends to the systems behind the scenes. Just as a garden blooms with the right care, your business thrives when you build solid, aligned systems.
Let’s picture your business as a tree. The operations system is like winter - the roots of your tree, hidden deep in the ground, working quietly to provide the stability your tree needs to stand strong. Winter isn’t about growth, but about solidifying your foundation. Operations are your grounding systems: finances, resource management, and daily tasks. This is where everything starts. Without strong operations, everything else can fall apart.
Once the foundation is set, it’s time to move into spring - the marketing system. This is where the seeds of your business start to bloom. Content creation, social media, and ads all come into play here, helping you attract new followers and connect with your audience. But, just like in nature, you can’t rush it. Planting the right seeds at the right time is key to nurturing lasting relationships.
As your tree grows, so does your sales system - the summer phase. This is when your business starts bearing fruit. Once you’ve attracted the right audience, it’s time to focus on converting that interest into something more: sales, clients, and partnerships. But even in summer, it’s not all about pushing for results. It’s about nurturing connections and making sure your clients feel valued - building a sustainable business that grows over time, rather than one based on quick wins.
Next comes autumn - the growth phase. As trees shed their leaves, your business needs time to assess its growth. What’s working? What’s not? This is when you reflect, refine, and start planning for new opportunities. Autumn is about fine-tuning your systems, expanding your offerings, and creating space for new growth in the future.
Finally, we come full circle to winter again. After a season of reflection and growth, it’s time for rest. Your business - just like nature - needs quiet, downtime to recharge and prepare for the next cycle. This isn’t a time for pushing forward. Instead, focus on mindset, reflection, and ensuring that everything you’ve built is aligned with who you are and what you want.
Each of these systems, like the seasons, works together in harmony. They support one another, creating a cycle of natural growth and evolution. When they align, your business grows at a sustainable pace, rooted in who you are.
And here’s where the nervous-system-friendly approach comes in: as you create these systems, listen to your body. If something feels too overwhelming or misaligned, it’s okay to adjust. These systems are meant to support you, not cause stress. Your business should work for you, not against you.
So, when you build your operations, marketing, sales, and growth systems, think of them as part of a natural rhythm. These systems should feel as organic as the changing seasons - gently guiding your business to new heights.

Magda
